Bourton is the most northerly village in Dorset. It is a vibrant village adjoining an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and borders Wiltshire to the east and Somerset to the west.
There is village store including a post office and a petrol station. The White Lion pub stands on the old High Street, which was once the main London to Exeter road. We also have St Georges Primary school which has recently been rated as “outstanding” by OFSTED. The school is next door to the 19thcentury St Georges Church. There is also a village hall, led and managed by a dedicated group of volunteers.
The Parish Council is the first tier of Local Government and is here to help and support the village. We have responsibility for managing the verges, maintaining and managing the cemetery, monitoring and responding to planning applications among many other things.
We normally meet on the fourth Wednesday of each month in the Village Hall. The formal session starts at 6.30pm and there is an open forum agenda item, when members of the public are welcome and encouraged to comment or raise concerns. Planning meetings are convened as required, as are Extra Ordinary meetings.
